Differences between Rich Text and Code/Markdown

I just created an account to use the web version of Cryptpad to write and edit markdown files. I'm using Chrome on Windows. The version of Cryptpad I see in my browser has no status bar at the bottom and seems to use the "simple" rather than "advanced" tool bar at the top. Is this a known bug with the latest release? Can anyone suggest a fix other than shifting to a self-hosted version? Clearing my Chrome cache didn't help. Nor did incognito mode.

Thanks for asking. I got the terms "simple" and "advanced" toolbar from Gemini when seeking help about the problems I'm facing. I can't vouch for Gemini's understanding of Cryptpad, though it's pretty good as a "manual" for other software.

The toolbar at the top of my CryptPad page has just four buttons: File, Theme, Insert, and Tools. As I understand it (from Gemini), I'm missing buttons for View, Share, and History.

When I click the Tools button, I only see commands for Bold, Italics, Strikethrough, Header, Link, Numbered list, Bullet list, Code, TOC, and Info. As I understand it (from Gemini), I'm missing commands for Find/Replace, Go to line, Word Count, Auto-Format, and Spellcheck.

I'd add a screenshot but I don't have an easy way to give my image a URL, which seems to be required to add images in this forum.

I wouldn't trust AI garbage software to "understand" anything to be honest.

You can drag and drop any image in the text field to upload it. You can also use the upload button in the editor toolbar. It'll be showing up within your message.

For your information, you can find, and read, our User Guide here: https://docs.cryptpad.org/en/user_guide/index.html. Going through it you will learn many great things about CryptPad, how it works and how it's supposed to behave. Don't hesitate to give it a try, it'll be much more informative and relevant than reading some AI crap prompts.

When editing a markdown file, here's what my toolbar looks like, with the Tools button pressed.

Am I seeing all the options I should see? Since I'm new to CryptPad, I want to explore all its features.

In particular, right now, I want the command that shows the outline structure of my markdown file, using the internal header codes. I've heard there's a way to see it in a left-hand sidebar, not just in the rendered text interpreting a [TOC] command. I'd appreciate any pointers.

I've checked the user guide -- thanks -- but it doesn't help with these questions. It shows that I could get this kind of outline sidebar when editing a rich-text document, but doesn't say whether that option is available when editing markdown code.

Yes, you are.

Where have you heard this? It doesn't work this way. Currently you have to add [TOC] within your document where you'd like to have your Table of Content rendered.

Our Rich Text and Code/Markdown applications are different, they don't use the same editors. As outlined in our User Guide, Rich Text is a CKEditor integration, while Code/Markdown leverages CodeMirror. Feature parity between the two applications was never intended.
