Problem

We have received multiple reports asking for the ability for form authors to delete some or all responses submitted to a form. One often cited use case is when the author wants to test their form but then exclude their test from the responses once the form is live.

We had initially ruled out this option as it opens up some problematic cases. For example if there are multiple authors on a form used for voting, one could use this feature to manipulate the results.

However due to this feature being requested multiple times we are considering if and how to implement it.

  • One potential solution we are investigating for this is to allow respondents to delete their own response, rather than the form authors. This would address some use cases, such as deleting test responses, without allowing vote manipulation by form authors.

I am currently using digitalcourages host service of cryptpad so please excuse me if they simply haven't updated cryptpad yet. However, I fail to see how I can delete my submission in preview mode. I only see the option "Reset" and "Update". Resetting and then submitting an empty form does not delete the submission.

I therefore assume that I am either overlooking the option or that digitalcourage hasn't updated cryptpad yet, but I am unsure which case is true.

I understand the argument with the manipulation, but we now have a case of a (fortunately small) poll, where the participant could not edit his own response. Unfortunately, I could not figure out why, because for everybody else who tried it worked.

What about still allowing it, but highlighting modifications by the admin in the event log (that should be visible to everybody). Or allowing to display the results with and without admin modifications, maybe selecting one modification or another. Just some ideas that would increase the usability and still account for this problem.
